Privacy Policy
The privacy of you and your words is the foundation of what we build. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over it.
1.What we collect
Account data: your name, pen name if you have one, email or phone number, country, and language and writing preferences.
Your content: projects, chapters, notes, story bible entries and their versions — stored solely to provide the service to you.
Usage data: writing statistics such as word counts and sessions, AI usage, and basic technical data such as browser type and error logs.
Payment data: the record, amount and status of your transactions. Your card details themselves are processed directly by Ziina and never reach us.
2.How we use it
We use your data to run your account and save your work, fulfil AI requests, calculate your goals and statistics, manage your subscription and remind you before it ends, send verification codes and essential notifications, and improve the platform’s performance and security. We never sell your data or use your content for advertising.
3.AI processing
When you use an AI tool, we send our third-party AI model provider the minimum context needed: the selected passage or the text around it, plus relevant project details such as summaries and story bible entries — never the whole manuscript.
The provider processes this data only to fulfil your request, under terms that prohibit using it to train its models, and may retain it for a limited period for safety and abuse prevention. We never use your writing to train any model ourselves. Conversations with the companion aren’t stored permanently, except for what you explicitly choose to save.
4.Who we share it with
Only with service providers acting on our behalf, and only as needed: our hosting and database provider, our AI model provider, Ziina for payment processing, and email and SMS providers that deliver verification codes and reminders. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.
5.How we protect it
Your data travels encrypted over HTTPS. Verification codes, passwords and session tokens are stored hashed rather than in plain text, and access to our systems is limited to a small number of team members on a need-to-know basis. No system is perfectly secure, so we also recommend choosing a strong password.
6.How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Items you delete move to the trash, where you can restore them, before being removed permanently. When you delete your account, your data is removed from active systems within thirty days and from backups within ninety days — except payment records we’re legally required to keep.
7.Your rights
You can access and correct your data and export your content at any time, request deletion of your account, and object to any processing you don’t consider necessary. Most of these rights can be exercised directly from settings, or by contacting us, and we handle requests in line with the UAE’s applicable personal data protection law.
8.Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies: to keep you securely signed in, and to remember your interface language and theme. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
9.Children
Bayan is not intended for children under 13. Users under 18 should use it under a parent’s or guardian’s supervision. If we learn we’ve collected a child’s data without appropriate consent, we delete it promptly.
10.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Bayan evolves, and we’ll notify you of any material change by email or in the app before it takes effect.
